I ski, but a lack of remaining annual leave means I can't ski this season either. Unless there's some good snow remaining in early May.

It's very upsetting reading about the fantastic condition of the pistes right now.

There is always good snow on glaciers, especially in Austria.

There's good skiing in Norway and Sweden, and the pound still seems to be holding its own against the respective currencies. Just take your own booze, though!

Les Arcs, 1st week in March. Taking the sleeper train each way means I can do 8 days' skiing despite only staying there for 7 nights.

As per Patrick, the exchange rate is going to seriously impact on my bar bill.

I grew up skiing, both cross-country and downhill (although I learnt the latter Telemark-style too in Norway) and even used to ski to school in winter. Never had much opportunity since except for the brief period I lived in Toyama in Japan, when I could reach the ski slopes in an hour by train...

Have just signed for a room only (no meals) in Samoens, part of the Flaine area, for 1 January. This is going to be a real budget job, shopping at the local supermarket, making our own sandwiches, drinking only the cheapest Euro-fizz.

Mind you I've got my new compact and turney Rossignol Bandits with Fritzchi touring bindings to try out, only 185 cms, this will be a big change from my ancient and much-ridiculed 1980s Salomon Force 9s, at a super-stable 207 cms.

I've been skiing 3 times in my life so far, twice in the last 4 years as a family holiday. I love it but this year is a no, no, too many things vying for time and money.

Me and the leg are going again next year!! SO excited. Nothing booked yet but I cannot wait to hear the squeaky snow and see the sun sparkling on the mountains. BRING IT RIGHT ON BABY!
