Just been reading of a couple who bought their first car back and restored it 25 years after getting rid. Got me thinking does anyone want any of their old bikes back? and why?

I wouldn't mind my 1996 Univega Alpina 500 back. Mostly because it was stolen. Lovely steel mountain bike which enjoyed many a fantastic ride on. Liberated from outside my place of work back in 1997, I've only just gotten 'round to replacing it with a 1996 Kona Lava Dome, in the same burnt orange with almost identical running gear..

I'd like to have my Marin Nail Trail (ca 92) & Palisades Trail (91) back, fantastic bikes for their time, esp the Nail.

As for the junk Bitsas I had in the 60's, no thanks.

in my teens i had holdsworth 531 not sure of model in a really too small a frame size for me , it was the orange and blue colour scheme i remember paying 15 quid for it in the mid 70's , wish i still had it .

my dad keeps harking on about a Barbican he use to have in his racing days , and mum remembers her Rotrax .

The blue one is original other than consumables. The ribble is the third frame, the other two were killed by cars. Even still, in the main its been the same bike for the last 18 years.

I've still got mine too. Viking road bike from 1979-ish and a Giant Coldrock from 1989-ish.

The Coldrock is pretty much original, I still have the original tyres (not using them currently) and it's still wearing the original brake pads, chain, etc. :becool:

I wouldn't mind my old Raleigh mustang back

Went miles on it

Bought it stock - 26x2.125(!!!) chromed steel rims, 18 speed Tourney gears, Lee Chi awful cantis

Over time through judicious "swapsies", auction buys etc it ended up with 1.75 alloy rims, Mountain LX shifters (mounted on the inside of brake levers on drops), 300EX mech, home-modified front pannier racks and umpteen other changes

I went miles on it, laden with camping gear

Why I loved it is the nostalgia and the knowing that I did it all on saturday-job money and had just as much fun on it as anything else I've spent £100's on
