I suspect @User9609 is your man. I did a chunk of growing up on the Northumberland coast and used to ride from home in Longhoughton to Seahooses and Bamburgh often enough. The coast proper is lovely, but the nearest continuous roads tend to sit a mile or two inland up until Beadnell. I'd consider Alnmouth to Seahooses or Bamburgh as a good run, with maybe a stop for the views of Dunstanburgh castle from Newton-by-the-Sea. Its not particularly hilly; for that you'd have to go inland a bit. Any of the minor roads into Alnwick will give you a few more lumps.

@Rooster1 where will you be staying? If you want hills, you'll need to go a bit inland, probs further than a 30 mile loop. A lovely ride however is up through Bamburgh, and onwards to Holy Island (check tide times). Depending on dates, can meet up for a ride if you like.

Hills? Inland - From Seahouses to Wooler and back with a bit of variation. 36 miles, but you could miss out going into Wooler (and another hill into the town)
I will be a bit controversial here, I think that part of the coastline is crap for cycling, roads are just too busy, and esp so in Aug, there seems to be a lot of complete nutters who come up from the toon in their BMWs & Audis and think the country roads are some sort of proving ground - and then there is the significant prob of the big motorbikes. I have done all the roads in that area (some many many times) and outside weekdays in the winter I just avoid the place for cycling. Some amazing beaches though, spend your time walking there.

As for cycling, get yourself west of the A1, Eglingham, Chatton, Etal, just wonderful empty roads. Have attached a GPX (don't know how to show to on a map) Drive over to Chatton and start from there, (apart from the short section south of Doddington) you will probably see just a couple of other veicles over the 25 miles. I ride in this area all the time its just wonderful cycling.

was down there yesterday, (Bird watching Cullernose point) Afterwards drove through your old village on route to Alnmouth, Longhoughton is just turning into a massive building site, seemed to have filled up those fields between the church and the railway line, and are now filling up the fields south of the Alnwick road. We tried to go down into Craster but it was just wall to wall cars and Alnmouth wasn't much better. Apparently in Alnmouth thee are plans for turning the sand dunes into a massive car park along with the marsh - that should complete remove any beauty the place once had. North Northumberland just seems to be a destination for cars now (and yes we were there in a car)

Sorry for being so negative but I once knew that area when it was something special.
S'not controversial at all, but it's a shame as I have happy memories of the area before its apparent gentrification. Longhoughton was never pretty even when I lived there and I know the RAF 'patch' has long since gone, but I'm sorry to hear the area is being concreted.
