Are there any cycling minimalists out there who keep things to an absolute bare minimum, eshewing much of the frippery and nonsense that goes with contemporary cycling. I seem to see a lot of Pre Raphalite types with all the bells and whistles and all the latest must have fad gadgets. I say keep it all to a minimum..you'll feel a lot better.

Why?

To each his own. I personally like the odd gadget and gizmo but I do try to keep things to the bare minimum.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be 'minimum'

I have recently started to ride singlespeed and am really enjoying it. I intend to use it for any flat rides under 150km. But for anything with hills or over 100 miles I'll be using my geared bikes.

I also have a fixed, but I like my singlespeed better.

But in saying that I will not be using my singlespeed for anything with hills I am also think about getting a singlespeed MTB.

Does doing most of my miles on a fixed wheel make me a minimalist? Does still being on 16 speed when most of my mates are on 20 speed and looking at 22 speed make me a minimalist?

depends what you mean by minimalist.

My fixie will look quite minimalist to some and not to others. Depends whether you think a front brake, bar tape and mudguards are really "gadgets" or accessories.

Maybe I should remove the valve caps too!
