Any ideas ?

I just thought I'd throw this open. Quite often just now when I go for a longer ride, one of the wheels seems to come off alignment and rubs, there seems to be no play in the cones or the brake hangers and no buckle and when I reset the wheel everything is fine again? Any ideas ?

I assume we're talking back wheel...

Are you using washers with the bolts?

Is it a QR skewer which just wont go tight enough?

Is your spanner long enough to give you enough torque to get 'em tight enough?

It seems to alternate front and rear. The QR's seem amply tight (maybe a little too tight  ) I'm edging towards scavenging some from another bike to see if the QR. The lbs had a quick look at it and thought everything was good too

I had this on the winter bike I recently built, but I'd re-spaced the rear end to accommodate a 10 speed block. It seems I might have spaced it fractionally too much

The back wheel would pull out of the drop outs as soon as you applied pressure to the pedal, the general consensus was that there was too much axle showing.

Sure enough, a couple of spacers and a star washer on each side and it's sorted.
Not that this will be much use as I know you haven't re-spaced your back end, but thought I'd share anyway, you never know

PS, FWIW I use THESE skewers as I find I can tighten them more than QR's.
