Any difference between 2008 and 2010 ultra torque chainsets?

As i posted earlier, my chainrings have worn away on my campagnolo centar crankset. (carbon)

Instead of forking out for some expensive new rings i thought i may as well buy a cheep (ish) alloy one and either swap the rings over or just change to alloy over the winter.

My question is. I have found several for sale but the cheeper ones are listed as 2008. Does anyone know if there are any differences, other than weight. I am most worried that the bearings and cups wont be interchangeable.

Cheers

The ones to avoid are the Power Torque models.

They have a slightly different system (which is crapola).

Ultra Torque are all compatible (although compact chainrings wont fit standard chainsets and vice versa).

Check out Mirage and Veloce chainsets like this

They all use the same rings with the hidden 5th arm.

Cheers, that's what I thought. I've got power torque on another bike but have yet had the joy of working on it. Even my LBS think the systems crazy.

The only thing I have found that may be slightly different are the chainring fixing bolts. They don't look the same on the carbon models as the alloy ones. Campag never make it easy!!

Check out Ribble for TA and Stronglight replacement chainrings. Far better idea.

I did have a look around but to be honest there was not much in it cost wise. I found a new crankset for 125 quid and they are including new cups and bearings in with that.

Ta rings seem to come in at around 75-80 quid for a pair with bolts more on top of that, bearings 20 cups 20, so about the same.

You won't need new bolts.

The thing is you are 'downgrading' your chain rings by buying a cheap groupset to use as parts ! It's still saving you £40-£50, whereas TA and Stronglight Zircal are on a par with the higher end stuff.

I've replaced my chainrings with Stronglight and TA i the past. My new Stronglight Zircal ones on my best bike are a piece of art - fabulous finish, and all the correct shifting ramps. This is on an older Dura Ace Chainset. There is no way I'd stick Sora or 105 rings on it !

I see what you mean (although I'm replacing campag centaur with another centaur)

Are these the rings you speak off, if so it does look like the way to go. Providing the 2007 is the same as the 2010 fitting!

They are.

Behold:-
Stronglight Zircal. These are 130 BCD as I run shimano.

Just check are you running standard or compact ? Campag standard is 135. Compact is smaller.
