Because it's been a long time since I was on a bike, I am going on a CTC cycle training course in January. The letter I received from them mentioned they needed an over 50's cycle group in my area and would I be interested in becoming a cycle champion and set one up.

I like the idea, plus the lady I spoke to on the phone said they provided the training, and I suppose I am a fairly responsible adult. So I thought I would ask for your views on giving it a go. I've been practising and would say I'm at a reasonable level for a beginner, but lack confidence especially on busy roads.
TIA

Ah yes, I can understand someone with that amount of experience being ideal. But to suggest it to me struck me as a bit odd. Anyway, I'll do the crush a cone course in January and probably leave it at that.

Do you think that by "champion" they simply mean someone who's enthusiastic and prepared to encourage others? I bet you don't need to be any sort of expert. Might be worth finding out more before you decide.

Our town has been designated as an "Active Travel Town" and Sustrans are working with the Council to encourage more cycling. Part of that is creating a Bike Users Group and I've joined that. We've only had one meeting so far so difficult to tell how it will work out but at least it's given me a platform to whinge about lack of cycle stands, signposting, etc.

That could be what they mean. I will try to find someone local to me who is involved and get more details. I don't want to sign up for something and then let them down.
