Antoine Vayer - Crank or sage

He's at it again with a recent tweet about Froome's unbelievable power. According to his own calculations that is. This is from the Tour of Oman. I note there's no mention of the Volta a Catalunya, where Froome looked far from impressive against Contador and Rodriguez, in fact Froome looked very early season, something Vayer says doesn't happen anymore. No mention of that at the moment though and this is beginning to look like a fixation. Or is it?

He's a trolling self-promoting gobshite

I've not really paid too much attention to him thus far, but reading the article he sounds Kimmage-esque in his reasoning; which places him in the crank category - there may be something behind the message he is trying to get across but it's lost in the lunacy of the method.

He's been banging on about numbers for a while now, working without full data and extrapolating into the unknown to prove what he had decided the result should be before he started.

I remember reading his data stuff and came up with the same impression re him having the answers and matching the data to make those answers seem correct. I'm not saying he's wrong, rather that he's approaching it from the position of a crank.

+1. Much like Kimmage he's not going to persuade anyone, other than those who already hold that position, because he does not come across as rational. And, again, like Kimmage, he does not appear to have recognised that sports science has changed.

I think Fred Grappe's summary the last time Vayer released his data still stands.

“The problem that I have with Antoine’s method is that he’s using a model which has around 20 variables which you feed into a mathematical calculation and you get a number which corresponds to a rider’s power output, which I think is a bit of a problem. And then, of course, you have to analyse and interpret that data,” said Grappe.

Classic case of construct a theory, then manipulate data to fit, omitting the parts that would not fit the conclusion. There is a short word for this kind of stuff, starts with a b and ends with cks.

I like his take but given his past at Festina it could be seen as self serving to hint many dope..makes what he did normal and not what he was..doper of riders making elite ranks closed off to up coming riders clean.
