I could hear something rattling in the rim of my front wheel so I took the tyre off. This fell out of the valve hole.

I'd appreciate any comments on (a) what it is and (b) if it's an issue.

If the rattling was in the hub, why take the tyre off?

Location
Loch side.
All one and the same. But I have no idea that that is. What does it taste like? Is it soft or hard? Mineral or vegetable? But b) it is not an issue.

If it is a 'chambered' rim (double wall) it looks like a bit of flux from when it was welded.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. It's metallic

Although I wonder if Campagnolo is actually an MI6 front and they've been tracking my movements on the bike for the past year with that thing. Check your Campag gear guys, it can't be just me they're after......

Sorry, I must be tired. The rattling was in the rim...hubs, rims....they're all the same aren't they??

A combination of these combined with spokes, are funnily enough those are called.........WHEELS.....

Seriously though check all your spokes on said wheel if there is one slack, that's the baby. because looking at that it looks to me like it MAY be a corroded spoke nipple top and the threaded part is still on the spoke and the the mushroom part that reacts against the inside of the rim has parted..First thought as the pic is a bit grainy....Hope you get to the bottom of the problem and the cause so it doesn't re-occur.

and looking at your photo again it looks like it and the greenish colour around the offending article looks like Locktite thread lock of some description which would put it under stress as the wheel flexed.......Theory..on my part but if it solves your problem, all well and good. hope it helps...
