Post traumatic stress syndrome, that incarnation of lights were truly shocking, the front kept falling off the bracket and lo and behold the front is missing!

The brakes are for double ended cables with nipples each end from the factory.

The cables are what I needed for the pre war Raleigh I had and the path racer.
There's an ad on eBay dating from 1937 for a model like this, would be interested to find out the date ( please don't reply saying look on the hub)

Was thinking about double ended cables and how to make them. Was thinking a dremmel small drill bit, fishing weights and some solder and use a normal brake cable. Not sure how strong they would be.
