Christmas day 2013.
I was invited to a Christmas dinner that was just under 5 miles away and decided that as the traffic would be very light, I would take my twice ridden hybrid that had been sitting in the garage for the last year and a half.
I made it in just over 30 minutes and the only thing I could think of was my poor bum and the crushing realisation that I have got to ride back in a few hours. After making it back, the bike went back into the garage behind the motorbikes and my poor bum took a few days to recover.
Fast forward to mid February and my wife and myself were talking about joining a cycling club and a quick google showed that the local club are a bit out of our league, but another group about 15 miles away catered to every level, so we decided to have a go at one of the easyrides that are approx 20 miles in length, mostly flattish and average 10mph.
With gel seat covers fitted we somehow survived the first ride and was back the following week for more, and the week after we joined the club and made a regular effort to ride with the club on Saturday mornings.
Towards the end of March, me and my wife also started riding out on Sunday mornings and were covering 40-45 miles over the weekend, at around the same time I packed up smoking (no patches, no e-cigs) and haven't been tempted back at all.
When we joined San Fairy Ann CC back in early March, there was talk about a 100k ride in the summer using the same route of the Audax 100k which takes place in July http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/14-509/
Yesterday was the day of that sample ride and I'm chuffed to have completed it with my wife (the furthest we had ever ridden in one day before was 50 miles, and that was a painful experience from the saddle point of view).

Today the pain is more in sunburn than bottom burn, but the quest for a comfortable saddle continues for the both of us.
Six months ago, if anyone would have said that I would ride a pushbike 100km in one day, I would have laughed at them, but I'm now looking towards the 100 mile goal in the next few months.

Well done !

It is amazing how quickly you can become conditioned to riding distances and up hills.

In the last week alone my own fitness has increased dramatically due to rides every other day.

This week I am going to see if I can do a ride Every day or at least 6 days.
