In a bit of shameless self promotion...I have gone clipless..a whole new world has opened up

Well done! But do use whatever wits you have got to stay on the bike!

it makes you think in advance, unclip well before you have to stop - unclip both feet, I've unclipped one only to topple the opposite way.
if you get the clips that are pedal one side and clip the other their good.
ready to push off get one foot clipped in and don't try and clip the other in till your away and clear of the obstruction.

if hitting rough ground unclip, coming down clipped is bad (cracked my colorbone the other week doing that, if I had unclipped I probably wouldn,t have fallen over)

but they are great , loads more power

Keep to your routine. I unclip my left foot, and then step down in to the frame to stop. I got distracted today arriving at work. Said Hello to a couple of work colleagues, unclipped my right foot and yes, tried stepping down in to the frame with my left. Needless to say I ended up having my first clipless moment with an audience. No damage to me or the bike. My pride has taken a bit of a bash though!

I've been riding them for about 20 years. I thought my 'clipless moments' were over then last week as I set off from a set of lights got caught out with a bit of toe overlap, couldn't get unclipped and lost my balance (not helped by the stupidly heavy rucksack i was carrying). Just get up quick and pretend nothing has happened.

living in the flatlands. what are the red lights you speak of?

They're often in built up places/country roads where two cars cannot pass or see each other. You wouldn't like them, they are the sworn enemy of a cyclist
