Another PB today 75+ miles. I did just over 60 with the cycling club then went on my normal 15 mile circuit. I had done 66 miles before, but ran out of energy at 60 miles and really struggled the last 6. This time I had glucose in my water bottle, a banana, some glucose tablets and some oaty bars with me. Although I am rather tired now but could still have gone further, but I had a roast meal waiting for me

While I was pretty fit before I started cycling in May I am quite surprised that I've lost 6lbs in the last 2 months (I had an 8 week break due to a torn calf muscle). Hills are still a bit of a challenge but getting better, and living on the edge of The Mendips I get plenty of practice

Joining the local cycling club, Somer Valley CC, has been a real bonus showing me some great routes and providing me some challenging rides.

Well done. I still get tired around the 50-60 mile mark however many of the things I do (about 20 in the last year).

Awesome effort mate, i'm only up to 50 so far.
You going for the century any time soon?

I was originally planning to have a go at the 100 on Wednesday but that would be on my own and I think I would be better off doing my 1st one on an organised event with other people. I've spoken to a friend about doing a sprtive some time and I think that it would be a good idea to get a few more 60-80 milers under my belt before if nothing else for some confidence.

Well done matey. Go for the 100. I did one a few weeks back (well 97.1) and that was only after 4 months of riding and I'm a spritely 44 year old. It was hard work and the last 20 miles were hard work. Next time though I will take some food with me and some energy tablets to put in my water.

Well done jeltz.
100 is well within your grasp. As you probably realise by now, fuelling is the secret to going further, I'm sure you have the fitness. Work on a fuel strategey/food combinations that works for you and always make sure you start eating and drinking early into the ride. Pace yourself early-on and the 100 should be a breeze!

Where's a good place to find basic fuel/food strategy advice, Foodie?
