Greetings from rainsoaked Ireland.
I have had a knee problem recently that surgery seems to have rectified but my Physio strongly recommended less running ( I used to do about 7 - 10 Miles four to five times a week ) and suggested Cycling as an alternative. I have an old mountain bike which I generally use in the summer months only and for average spins of about 6 - 8 Miles at a very pedestrian pace.
After much research ( many thanks to this site )and few spins on a work colleagues Kelly Road bike I eventualy took the plunge and purchased a Ridley Orion for myself. I have now had 5 spins of 15 Miles / 15 Miles / 20 Miles / 32 Miles and 20 Miles and am enjoying it greatly so far.
Initial teething problems included breaking a presta valve b4 even leaving the house for my first spin then geting a blow out after 2 miles because I hadn't replaced the tyre properly. On my second spin I fell off the bike in a small village because I couldn't get clipped out of the pedals quickly enough and just keeled over ( nothing damaged except my pride, thankfully ).
Looking forward to spending more time in the saddle and also on here getting up to speed on all there is to know. Two quick questions to get me started if its not too much bother
1. Mavic Peleton shoes have a little steel mesh type of vent built into the sole which I presume is to aid ventilation but what to do in the wet ?? I have decent Endura Overshoes but because of the cut out for the cleats water still gets at this "vent" and feet will end up wet. Do all road shoes have this "vent" or are there there specific winter / summer shoes ??
2. Twenty speed gears ( 2 x 10 ) ad when bike is in 9th and 10th i.e. small ring on front and either of the smallest 2 rings on the rear it "rattles" a little. It probably only needs minor adjustment but I'm vary of touching it and don't want to be trottin into LBS with every little minor issue. Gears are Shimano 105
Many thanks
