Been reading the posts on this forum so decided to join you lovely people. Getting back into cycling after almost 18 years. I've bought a hybrid Carrera Subway, not the best thing in the world but its more than adequate for my needs for now. I want to commute to work on a bike rather than car and I think spring is the best time to start. My commute is only 5 miles round trip. :-)

It still means 5 miles less on the odometer of your car, less petrol/diesel, less wear and tear on your car plus it should so much more enjoyable especially with spring just starting.

BSRU thanks and exactly. Also it means one less car in the family. Because we're going to sell one car now. Its good for my pocket, for my health and good for the environment too so its win win situation.

Brilliant and welcome aboard Shaz.
Hopefully you'll find plenty on this board to keep you engrossed of an evening.
I miror the thoughts of the previous responses and would add that if you are relatively new to commuting, jump into the Commuting heading on the main board list and then into the Essential Advice thread which has a great download with tonsa advice.

Hi Shaz. 5 miles is a pretty ideal distance for cycle commuting and yes you have picked a good time of year to start. You'll probably save more money than you expect by biking that kind of distance instead of driving.

The Carrera Subway may not be the best bike in the world but it's pretty well regarded by a lot of people on here and I reckon it's a good choice for the task.
