ok at the moment I have a triban 3 the white one. I've had my money's worth out of it and now I know it's time to get something better. I have about £800to spend, now I'm still a noob about road bikes with regards to gears etc. I've seen bikes with 105 groupsets in my price range and I've seen bikes with Tiagra ones at about £100 less,is there that much difference between the two of them.

Thanks in advance

Not much no if it's the newer 4700 tiagra. 10 speed rather than 11, different aesthetically. Go try a bike with each and see if the 105 seems worth the extra

Getting a good frame that's right for you is more important . Evans will let you take bikes out for a good while as long as it's dry, as might your local shop

Do you have a shortlist? Are you looking at a unisex model or a women specific design
Something racy or a bit more relaxed?
Do you use it for commuting so need mudguards, a pannier rack?

The groupset should probably be far down the list of criteria in reality

Thanks Vickster I'm looking for a bike that I'll be doing 40+ miles in one day maybe a couple of times a week, it must be drops. I'll be climbing some steep hills as I've just joined a club. I thought seeing as I was female a ladies bike would be better. I like the look of the giant liv avail 1 or the cannondale 105. I'll maybe pop into Evans and see what's on offer. My Lbs does Merida so maybe I'll ask his advice

Sounds like a plan. Evans should be able to do you a test on a Cannondale
If hills your thing you might find a carbon bike lighter. Perhaps look for 11-32 on the back for hill climbing too

The Avails are smashing bikes. Giant stores and others have deals right now. Might get lucky and find carbon around your budget?
Eg if tall http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b0s134p5868/GIANT-AVAIL-ADVANCED-3-2015

(I'm between 5,9 and 5'10 and had a medium avail)

Could the OP get something with hydraulic discs in budget?

Cable discs require a bit more fettling.

She doesn't mention discs at all. The bike I linked just happened to have them

Also, the hoods on the hydraulic disc compatible STIs are massive. I doubt I could use them, even normal shimano hoods don't work for me, I can't get good enough purchase on the levers to brake. SRAM for me thus. My hands aren't even that small.

However, if @yerteasoot is ok with her current brifters (not sure what the White triban has, Claris?) then maybe tiagra/105 are fine for her
