What is the point of banning someone from driving as a punishment for driving while banned from driving?

Mandatory driving ban for dangerous driving, in England at least.

Forty-eight weeks seems an odd duration, I'd have expected a year or 18 months, so maybe it's different in Scotland.

Again if he was done in England, he would have to take an extended driving test if he wanted to drive legally after the ban expired.

Do the old bill take the car only if the uninsured driver's in it? I mean, the car could belong to someone else so they couldn't retrospectively impound it?

Depressing isn't it. Convicted on 4 charges, and still basically let off with a trivial fine, community non-punishment, and a ban which he'll ignore. Crushung the car should be the minimum, crushing his hands would be better.

If someone's driving without a licence or insurance, they'll continue to regardless, so bans and re-test threats make no difference to them if they've never taken a test to start with. Impound and crush the car if it is theirs ... ah so what, crush it anyway... it's up to the owner to ensure whoever drives their car is legally entitled to...

I though that it was to do with "Aggravation"

By consistently defying a ban, it allows the use of a jail sentence

Why not pass such vehicles onto the emergency services so they have something to practice on. Then crush em

Nice result. Hopefully when he gets back behind the wheel again he might think twice about getting to close to cyclists. The fine should have been at least £1000 !
