Ok so my Bianchi has developed an really annoying clicking as I ride. I checked the front and rear indexing which seems fine. I wiped down the crud off the chain etc and cogs....the pedal/cranks seem tight enough when I do the wiggle test....the lbs took a look and siad it would cost £30 to look at it (Bah!) ...so...mes amis...any clue what it might be?

It only clicks as I ride, th ebike is rideable but it's just annoying me.

TIA
Boab:smile:

what frequency is it - once per crank revolution, twice per crank revolution, once per wheel revolution, once per chain revolution, intermittent, etc?

Had a similar problem with my Scott last night. Thought it was BB/pedals/gearing issue. All checked out... Turned out to be grit in the seat tube. Pulled seat post out cleaned/greased and cleaned/greased inside seat post. Sorted.
Clicking vibration must've been travelling through frame and sounded (and felt!) like it was coming from the BB area.

The cranks are loose. The cranks are always loose. (or the BB's shot)

....to work it out, do a 'doctor's loop':
  • Ride on the saddle, hard and soft. Clicking still there?
  • Ride out of the saddle....still there?
  • Ride by only pushing hard down on one side, ie left, and just coasting round on the other. Repeat for the other side.
  • Find a little hill and power up it, pulling on handle bars (to diagnose handlebar / stem creak)
  • Change the angle of your foot when you're pedalling (heels down / not down). Check for change in sound
  • If none of these things work, drop your bike on the floor, find a tree branch and begin beating Mr Bianchi violently whilst shouting at it and telling it "this is your last chance". Worked for Basil

EDIT: And I'm sure that's pretty obvious, but I liked being able to make a bullet pointed list...

Speaking as one who has also just developed a bit of a noise, it's not pretty obvious, but it is really helpful, so ta for that. I shall try all those. I'm especially looking forward to the last one.

Cable slapping against frame anywhere?
That was mine recently - after I'd just about stripped entire drivetrain looking for the source.

I think I will strip it all down and go from there....erm...and probably end up with two annoying clicks:ohmy:...alternatively I may just buy some ear plugs:laugh:

Thanks for helping chaps.

I swapped my pedals over with the pedals from my good bike and identified that the irritating click was the pedal bearing. Having played around with the pedal and and a mole wrench, I concluded I could not get the bearing out without damaging the pedal. Next step -order new SPD pedal from Parker, then put broken SPD back on bike for commute. New pedal now in transit from Parker, cycled home and noise has disappeared. Anyone want a pair of new SPD pedals?

That's one people sometimes forget. I had a Kona MTB that made a "tink, tink, tink" noise. It turned out to be a cable slapping on the top tube. It wasn't beautiful but I fixed it with a zip tie.

ok..well i tried the tests above. The click is only when I pedal down on th eright foot, the left crank is click free so its a problem in the chainset and or right crank. I re set the indexing, cleaned the chain etc..and the crank seems tight on..no wobble.

I'm flumuxed...the bike rides fine just this dam annoying click...

Try completely taking the crank off and refitting it, and if that doesn't work, try taking both off and putting them on at another angle. I've heard those two things work.
