Annoying noise

I have an annoying noise while riding and It's coming from the plastic disc behind the rear cassette is it needed or can I remove it ?

Just cut it off.

But can't see how it would make a noise unless it's broken and rubbing against the spokes.

It rattles about it's not broken my bikes still like new

The just cut it off if you don't want to take the cassette off.

It is a safety device to stop the rear derailleur from hitting and damaging the spokes of the bike. So make sure the derailleur is set up correctly.

What's its job? Because ill just remove it if it's not needed

To stop the derrailer going into the spokes if its not adjusted correctly
