So friday me and the missus were in town and wandered by carphone, we grabbed the brochure to see what was on offer at least.
interestingly enough they do offers on older phones with things like ps3's and netbooks for free.
one of the lower ones was a full 3g/wifi Kindle and i'd wanted a kindle for ages.
not seeing a phone i liked i checked to see what kind of deal they'd give me on a decent android phone, i picked the Samsung Galaxy S
i'm now the proud owner of a slightly higher monthly contract with my regular network that won't break the bank, a galaxy S and a kindle

so anyway i spent the weekend grabbing apps for my android, naturally the TDF app went straight on but then i started thinking about other cycle apps.
what have you guys seen out there thats usefull, can you recommend things like bike doctor or perhaps tracking apps for distance/time/elevation/gps stuffs?
what else is out there that might be useful? store locators etc?

thanks
pete

'Bike Repair' I am using rather than Bike Doctor simply because I got it free from the Amazon marketplace.

Plants vs Zombies, keep an eye for that coming out  I've got it already because I have an Amazon.com account and faked my location to a bike shop in Tucson, so it let me buy the app early outside of the locale restriction

+1 on Endomondo

And grab 'Advanced Task Killer', this kills apps that you don't want switched on, specially when recording a route and the GPS is turned on. It only kills for that time, they operate fine when you decide to use them again.

I did the Mcr to Blackpool ride yesterday, did it in 3:34, GPS and app was running the whole time, killed everything I didn't want on, still had 3/4 battery at the end of the ride (Phone is Galaxy I7500)

Endomondo too.

I read something about ViewRanger recently. It's not free like Endomondo tho. But from what i gather it follows you on OS maps (if in the UK) and other proper maps when abroad. Handy if you are in an area you don't know, as you get the incidental info too, POI, ancient monuments, viewpoints, etc. Not used it tho.

I tend to use Google MyTracks a lot instead of Endomondo. Anyone know if there is a problem with running them side by side (I really like the "Export to google maps" feature of my tracks so I can clearer show off to the OH where I have been ;)

Endomondo of course, I also have Cyclestreets, Bike Hub, Bike Route (although not yet tried the last three)

@Abo, how do you fake your location? There were somethings I wanted from Amazon but as I am in the UK it wouldn't let me,.

I use My Tracks as well as I like to export to google maps if I pass somewhere I want to visit another time.

Also not cycle related but Voucher cloud is a good ap to go for. Has everything from 2 for 1 entry to places to discount on meals out. It works on GPS so locates the closest deals to where you are. It saved me a lot of money when I went away for a long weekend

@Abo, how do you fake your location? There were somethings I wanted from Amazon but as I am in the UK it wouldn't let me,.

Ages ago I opened an Amazon.com account using my UK address and they were fine with it, should still work ok.

To use the Amazon app store I:

Added a 'main' address (or whatever it is) from the US. I just went on Google, decided on a random business and used their address
But, you need a US-based payment system. So, I googled one of the American Express 'test' credit card numbers (they provide this legally, all above board) and entered that as an additional credit card. Worked just fine.

I then placed my order *on the web* (still won't work on the mobile app) and selected the AMEX as the payment type. This was accepted by the system's location check, but bounced as an invalid card. They then ask you to select an alternative payment type, so I just chose my regular UK card and hey-presto; it worked.

Finally, I opened the Amazon app store on my phone and there was my app waiting to be downloaded.

*disclaimer* I'm pretty sure this isn't very above board especially since I had to enter a US address I Googled!!! But they don't receive junk from Amazon, and I made the payment from my own, correct card so Amazon still got their money.

Not sure if this is widely known, but I;ve just found it today.

iMapMyRide is now available on the Android marketplace - and is free for a limited time.
Not sure if that means you can use it free for x days, or if you download it now then it's free forever.

Anyway just thought I'd let people know - and sorry if this is really old news....
