Well remembered; up there with Melvyn Bragg and Magnus Magnusson as a fine broadcasting brain. My definition of a blue-stocking has long been: a woman whose idea of heaven is a weekend in the Catacombs with Bamber Gascoigne. No other well-known figure quite seems to fit the bill. The London Library has lost a fine member. Thanks for the memories.
