Amazon automated call scam

I get these from time to time and ignore them but yesterday’s was a little more noticeable.

It was the standard message about being debited £79 for subscription and to press 1 for details etc but what caught my eye was the calling number. Let’s say my number is 07934 567432, the call came from 07934 567431, exactly one digit value away from my number. I guess they must now be automagically spoofing the displayed number to be one away from the target.

I don’t know what advantage there might be to that, if any. 🤷‍♂️

I used to get loads of scam calls from phone numbers very similar to mine. For some reason it always sounded like somebody trying to talk to me in the middle of Mumbai during rush hours.

If you report the number as a phishing one, then it won’t block it for others as they’ll see a different number.

The latest version is also to ring your home number and the number they are calling from appears as a local number rather than the usual “international”

Yes, it was so obviously spoofed that I didn’t see the point.
