Started cycling last month seriously after 12 years break, partner bought me a Carrera Kraken to start with first couple of times was quite hard work as I live at the bottom of quite a steep hill and the bike is quite heavy.
Now about a month on things are getting easier hills don't seem quite so steep now up to about 8-10 miles daily but something else seems to be happening.
For first time in years i'm actually sleeping I eat better and have to say feel a lot better in myself this amazing increase in general fitness is for me amazing.
Thanks for all the encouragement and support and patience for the mad questions have asked on here over the last month hope will be just the start:bicycle:

Nice one!
It's good to see the positive effect cycling has on everyone, it really is very effective at making (and keeping) people fit. The only drawback is that I now find the legs of my work trousers a bit tight, even though they're the right length .

Well done on your achievement and it will only get better :highfive:

I agree, being a new starter myself this year. I have a 10.8 mile loop and couldn't manage some of the hills and even walked up 2 or 3. Now two months on I can do them all and I only stop if I have to blow my nose (snot stop). I feel much fitter, I know this because the stairs in work are no longer an effort and I can even run up them.:wahhey:

I was in a similar position about 18 months ago. I didn't have a problem sleeping, but my problem was me feeling tired all the time. Now I'm sleeping 7 hours waking naturally (Not to the screech of the damnable alarm), and like you eating better. I'm not as cold all the time which is a side effect I didn't expect.

One big thing is that's I'm less moody and more able to accept things I cannot change. I'm hoping for an award from my beloved children. Something like most improved parent.

Cycling is not just good for fitness, but total well being of my family. "Daddy, why don't you go for a bike ride'

Good to hear your progress, it's rewarding both emotionally and physically when you cycle regularly as I have found out since taking it up for the first time last July. Today I decided that the saddle wasn't quite high enough as I didn't seem to be getting enough power down so I increased the height and did the same route (26 miles) a full 6 minutes quicker! Maybe it's not just the saddle height that helped and is a combination of getting fitter but the feeling was amazing when I checked the results on Strava. I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight though as I only finished the ride an hour ago and am knackered, doing 26 miles in 1hr 25mins with a mixture of hills and straights on the route. Keep up the good work!
