Am I missing something?

Spent a long time in MTB shoes using M520s dreaming about road shoes and pedals. Got a set about a year ago and I don't really see them as an upgrade! In fact,it was the realisation that I'd put the MTB pedals back on and saw the road pedals today, sitting in my spares box, that made me question why I ever wanted them.
Am I missing a trick here?

I liked my old Look pedals and shoes, but TBH, they are sitting unused in a drawer and I am using SPDs on all my bikes too!

Spd's on all my bikes, saves faffing about with different shoes for different bikes, can't really see the appeal of road systems especially for a commuter/leisure cyclist like myself.

i will change to spd some point due to the amount of walking i do
i would estimate in a year i probably end up walking over a mile odd in spd-sl shoes and cleats

Depends if you have a feminine side I guess.
Road shoes are nice if you want to tip toe around like a princess.
MTB shoes are much more practical. Its what I always used. Road pedals though.

But then again- nothing practical about shaving legs either. I've cut myself more times than shaved legs have saved me from hygiene problems from a fall.

What exactly did you think you would gain?

As for comments about MTB shoes being more practical, maybe if you plan to do a lot of walking about but for walking into a cafe etc, if you can't walk just fine with road shoes you have something wrong with you!

I don't think you are, you just got suckered in by the slick marketing and snobbery that exists in some of the cycling world. In fact I think I suggested something similar in another thread recently....
Personally, if you are running a mixed fleet like yours then I would suggest sticking with the MTB SPD system. I have 3 bikes, an MTB, a commuter hybrid and a faster road bike and all have the MTB type SPD pedals fitted. This suits me as I only need 1 type/pair of shoes and the MTB shoes are much, much more practical for walking about in safely when off the bike.
I think you would definitely notice a difference by swapping to SPD-SL pedals and shoes and the differences won't necessarily be an improvement.
