Am I being over sensitive ?

About 3 weeks ago I put a deposit down on a new bike. With the proviso that I would pick it up by on the last weekend of the month (27th March) They only had the 54 frame in the shop of the lower model so I test rode that and the bike was good and the fit felt OK but not 100% Perfect the guy in the shop all along said I would be a 56 Frame for this bike. So I ordered that one and put down a deposit.

At the time he said the bike should be in by next week (ish) and we will get you back and all measured up in advance of you picking it up just in case the sizing isn't right.

I heard nothing phoned the guy on Tuesday to be told that he had about 15 orders in didn't think I was in a rush blah blah blah I asked what would happen if the 56 wasn't right and I had to go with the 54 will you get it on time I advised I only had saturdays to get to the shop and he said he would phone me and let me know.

I have heard nothing since and just have this gut feel that I am not going to hear anything tomorrow either so come the date of my pick up Saturday week if the 56 ain't right and I haven't had the chance to check it out beforehand then I will not have a bike !

What would you guys do?

Part of me wants to go in there on Saturday ask for my deposit back and go somewhere else as if this is how I get treated when I buy a bike what will it be like if something goes wrong !!!! or am I over reacting ?

The 56 will probably be fine but what if its not I just don't wanna take the chance.

For some reason it has really been irking me and apologies but had to get this off my chest!

I think you've answered your own question - if your gut feeling is bad about this guy/shop - "ask for your deposit back and go somewhere else."
Delays happen - but if this guy/shop can't be bothered to keep you informed, walk away. Like you said "what will it be like if something goes wrong?"

I had a delay with a bike delivery last year and was kept "fully" up to date by the shop.

Ultimately it's your money and your choice.

The agreement was for delivery by 27th March.

Deposits are largely a contract to buy unless it is expressly states that it is refundable so the LBS would be with his rights to hold on to the deposit if you withdraw.

If they fail to supply by the agreed date then the deposit would become refundable as they have not kept their side of the contract.

I would wait until 27th before asking for my money back if the bike has not been supplied. Although a quick chat about it with the LBS beforehand might prevent any unpleasantness.

Whilst not wanting to be over pessimistic, the only bike i've ever got on time (well it was early) was the one I ordered from Ribble when I was working there! Always be nice to the mechanics. All the others have been delayed in one way or another. Frustrating but I just accept it. Alot of the time it's not the shop's fault but the suppliers who often miscalculate demand etc.

On the other hand, if you have a genuinely bad feeling about the shop then wait until the 27th if there's still no show, take your money elsewhere.

Sounds as if you may have caught them at a busy time and their communicating isnt good. I would pop in tommorow and ask for a progress report and remind them you specified its to be delivereed by next week.Hopefully yopur fears will be groundless but dont accept the bike until your completely happy its what you want and the right size.
