...tout for prospective students for college here?

I have just managed to get a new student to sign up today to study the course I teach at college. He was keen but concerned about the cost and so Student Services manged to sort out £8k+ of funding for him.

We don't have many students but that is a good thing, however, a few more wouldn't go amiss.

It would help your cause if you said what the course was

I didn't want to get done for blatent advertising.

I teach hand crafted furniture design and making at Burnley College and we run a most excellent furniture course that is under publicised. We could do with increasing the intake for next September when we move to a new college building.

Basically myself and the other teachers on the course will teach you to design and make bespoke furniture either for a hobby or for a change in career. We have students from all backgrounds and age ranges regardless of previous experience or ability. Ex students have moved on to work for some established furniture makers or become self employed running their own workshops.

In these difficult times I'm sure everybody understands that we have to advertise our products and talents in any way we can.

don't see why not. It might just stimulate someone into considering a change of career . Never a better time to consider it than a recession;)

Ultimately I guess my job is dependent on it. If there are not enough students next term then the college can't justify keeping all the staff that are teaching the subject. As the part timer I would be first out.

Is it a full time course?
It can be full time at 4 days a week over two years or it can be part time.

It is a HND level course and involves all aspects of design, making, tool technology, visual studies and marketing. There is also an exhibition of student work at Townley Hall at the end of term each year as well as visits to established makers.

When I was studying we did a trip to Barcelona to look at the architecture (and drink beer).

If circumstances were different it would interest me a lot.

Still, I've got till September for it to go tits up .

Hope it's a success.

Is it marketed at school leavers or more aimed at college leavers?

The course is aimed at all sorts. Basically, if you have an interest and the slightest practical competence then that is a good start. There is Level 1 and 2 which is generally school leavers but some mature students do start there and I have a couple of Level 3 sharing my HND class. The HND is Level 4.

If you had no formal qualifications then there is the general literacy and numeracy classes if needed but most people seem to manage quite well with the written work load.
We teach you to understand and use tools and timber safely and correctly but also we push your design skills and concepts of contemporary design to the limits.

The design teacher is brilliant and she really does challenge your ability and open up your design limitations. She also teaches you to water colour and produce artistic representations of design work.
