I saw a bike 'secured' to one of those little rectangular single yellow line parking information signs last night.

If somebody wanted to steal the bike they just had to lift it over the top.

I thought I was bad enough locking my bike to nothing when I was in a rush.

I put the lock over the bike rack, through it and didn't put it through the frame.

Well at least it was going through something fairly structural on your bike... rather than fresh air.

Actually, because of the stupid design of the racks, the wheel goes next to, to in between the rack, so I'd basically locked the rack to nothing.

Not that it mattered much anyway - it was only a crap cable lock anyway.

Isn't this image highlighted more due to the fact the lock is just looped over the seat as opposed to locked to a tree?

Yes. That's kind of the point.

and use a better lock than a 10mm wire too . A friend in work broke the combination bit on his lock. My cheap Rolson faux leatherman tool cut the cable in less than 10 seconds.

I got back to my bike last week and panicked for a moment when the key wasn't in my pocket - then I discovered I'd left the key in the lock for 2 hours...
