... just for fun and without googling, which rider holds the 2 fastest times up the Alp, of the currently active crop?

Cadel Evans ?
Edit - nope, just checked. The guy did cross my mind but wow, I didn't think he'd be that quick...

I had three guesses and then cheated.

I was wrong three times and one of mine wasn't even on the list of the fastet.

I would never have guessed who it is in a month of Sundays... although now that I know, it's quite obvious of course...

I won't say, but I doubt anyone will get it.

OP, did you know?

Depends if the "current crop" goes back 10 or 12 years, in whcih case some very quick times have been posted, which will be hard to beat. Climb times for the best are up to 2 minutes slower now, and riders finish (at a stage end) in bits. Conclusions you may draw.

Not to give it away but the difference between the best 2011 time and the best of the old stager in question is just under 3 mins, who is 1 min off Pantani's best.

Bob Monkhouse, or, second guess, Cilla Black?

This answer is absurd.

Monkhouse is dead and I can find nobody called Cilla Black in the record books.

I do not think you ae taking this seriously!

Have you no respect?

The current crop includes anyone still riding in the pro peloton!
If you want to see the answer click on this which also has the all time lists. Interesting comparisons as has been pointed out.

Not quite a donkey into a racehorse but you wouldn't have him down as a climbing gazelle.

I'm surpried Rolland isn't there, given he won the stage in 2011 and there are lots of other riders times in the list from that stage. He was up the road though I think before the climb started?

It makes an interesting read. I adored Pantani and he was (is) something of a hero to me. I'm not alone in that.

Armstrong, on the other hand, is the last of the truly great, clean athletes. That he managed those times without touching the naughty stuff just elevates his status in my own, personal pantheon of magnificence.

He was poorly, he got well, he was clean and he STILL managed two of the five fastet recorded times up l'Alpe d'Huez!!!

Really, how can the doubters now have any argument with my contacting former Hitler Jugend Anti-Aircraft Gunner, His Excellency the Pope and asking for (no demanding) immediate and back-dated canonisation for Sir Lance of Armstrong.

I bet the doubters feel a little silly now....
