Ex-Fatman
So there I was doing my regular lunchtime 20 mile loop, going down a reasonably steep hill section at about 25mph when I hear a revving behind me. A quick look over my shoulder and there is a white BMW (why is it always BMW's?) right up my ass. I am over to the left too. He suddenly accelerates past me, pulls in front and slams on the brakes to take a hard left turn at the junction coming up. I pull on the anchors as much as possible, but know there is no way I will stop in time, and if I hold course I will be in the back of him. My only course of action is to go into the opposite lane and an oncoming bus!! The bus driver going uphill is very slow and stops in time allowing me to miss him by 2 feet.

Now I'm used to cycling in the city but this twat has seriously un-nerved me.

Now comes the good part......3 cars back waiting to pull out from the left hand junction is....you've guessed it...a POLICE car, who immediately upon seeing the BMW do his stunt pulls out and blocks his path. Queue one very pissed off policeman and he proceeds to book the BMW driver for dangerous driving, no contest..it's all on his dashboard camera.

So long and short of it...I'm ok, and some aggressive, idiot driver who couldn't wait 20secs now has points and a massive fine. Karma's a bitch

Sometimes, just sometimes, things work as they should.

And if the government weren't going to cut our pay, funding and numbers further, it could happen more often with more of us out there! Write to your MPs!

/end shameful moment of attempting to selfishly utilise the prop-police feel of thread thus far

On a serious note, nice story, and glad you weren't hurt!

Its just one of those occassions where you with you had better brakes. A car can go from 25 mph to a dead stop much quicker than a bike.

Did the police officer speak to you about the incident and if so, what did he say to you?

Nice to hear you wernt hurt and the police got him. This kind of thing happens all to often , usually not malicious , just thoughtless and inconsiderate.

It wasn't happening more often before any talk of cuts came along so why this sudden discovery of a potential capability? Police in most places IME are completely disinterested in what happens to cyclists. You get the occasional investigations but too often its frustratingly difficult to even get it recorded and usually no further action even if the whole thing is on video (as is often reported on here)
