it's a 2013, done 1500 miles, 6 months old and the bearings are shot! got told there's only a 3 month guarantee on the bearings! pretty poor show I reckon.

same bike as mine, and my bearings feel rather rough in there too

6 month 1500 miles and shot? For a headset! I am willing to bet money it is not fit for purpose under terms of the UK Sales of Goods Act if it gets in front of a judge, whatever Specialized says (since nothing they say can affect your statutory rights).

I do appreciate few would find the time and energy to fight - perhaps we should maintain a sticky to name and shame, or else nothing is going to change as we see the reliability of headsets/bottom brackets/hubs etc. just getting worse and worse.

Let us know if those bearings work. I have an Allez 2011 and the cane creek headset finder also suggested the IS41 but lbs couldn't get it the bearings to fit as a smidgeon out.

For what we pay for these bikes they really are s% $& quality. The head race is knackered, the tyres were rubbish and kept getting punctures, even though they were puncture resistant (now have gatorskins and new wheels), the saddle was awful, jockey wheels on rear are worn out and the brake blocks were shocking.other than that lot I'm quite pleased lol! Buying a 'decent bike' has been a real eye opener.

Easy to check Jack, I swapped mine top to bottom, bottom to top, just to get a few more miles. Bottom one was bleeding rust, not bad for a so called sealed bearing!

the bearings I just licked to fit the Langster, only diff I can see if that here is a slight gap top and bottom where before it was quite neat but not quite touching ? Also the bearings were not particularly hard to fit in fact they were easily pushed in and removed but then so where the old ones. My Specialized dealer recommended these http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/products/specialized-mindset but the cane creek bearings seem spot on.

The headsets are crap they all save money somewhere along the lines, wheels and BB and headsets seem to be the areas ! However 1500 miles and your bike sounds a basket case, have you actually maintained it ??? Serious question, I do some high mileage and even my bikes are in better nick than that!

Mr Grumpy, I'm a maintenance engineer by trade and I also ride and maintain my motocross bike so yes, it is maintained lol! Just find components to be terrible. I know someone in the trade too and he was shocked when he started in the shop, so it's not just me! At least it gives me the chance to buy stuff!!

He he me in the same trade however I do agree with you the quality of the bearings is poor. The cane creek ones I linked to seem better quality but as the Langster is my winter/poor weather bike, it will get abuse. I think to get quality you have to pay hence Hope manufactured bearings are expensive but are pretty much user servicible. Oh another poor area is the BB area although not sure what your Allez as their ? Mine is a bog standard BB albeit its 103 x 86, however they don`t last long.
