OK, I am going to cycle from Leicester to Cambridge. Got the route sorted out. I have my 2 bikes to choose from: Sirrus or Allez;
Which one should I use for the ride? Head says 'Allez' for speed/aerodyn etc.

Might have asked this before but can't remember.

Anyway what would you choose?

What have you got to cycle between Leicester and Cambridge for and how far is that ?

Distance is about 75 miles.
What have I got to cycle between Leicester and Cambridge? I already told you; an Allez or a Sirrus!

[I have family in Camb and can get a lift back to Leicester]

For 75 miles I'd want the drops, Allez. If you've already told us why it must be in another thread ;) Depending on where and why the sirrus might have got preference (ie to carry a load) but at 75 miles the Allez wins hands down, plus the Allez will probably go in their car better B)

Allez l'Allez! But then I am biased, it is my current bike (just back from a highly satisfactory burn-up on it too!) and we've done many thousands of comfortable miles together, some of them quite quickly too!

Use the red one.

hi, just out of curiosity because i have a sirrus and was thinking of getting a proper road bike do you find much difference in speed on your allez. Thanks in advance Rossco.

On my Sirrus I was averaging 14.5-15.5mph comfortably and if I really worked I could get it up to 17.5mph on a flat course. I put dropped bars on it and was then cruising at about 15-16mph for the same effort and with work I can average around 18mph. I then bought a couple of dropped bar road bikes and I'm cruising on them about 16.5-17mph on average for the same effort; If I really work I can average in the high teens low 20s. Too sum it up you'll get about 0.5-1mph average advantage with just changing to drops but you'll get at least 1-2mph advantage with a specific dropped car road bike. You really feel the advantage of the drop bar on downhills and windy conditions IMO and there is also the added benefit of more places to put your hands/ more positions on long rides.

Well I eventually did the ride down to Cambridge on the bike and I'm glad I went for the Allez.
Really enjoyed the ride, too.
