Hi,

Had a minute to pop into aldi and found a skull cap and overshoe set that must have been tucked under some other stock as there wasnt a price on the board for them, I didnt have cash with me and the que for the tills were huge so I didnt get a price for them.

So, how much were they, and were they any good?

How much? can't remember, but they were cheap

The cap is quite good but I personally find all hats too hot and this one is no exception.
The overshoes are Ok, better than nothing, but not as good as some thick, meaty ones.
Useful for keeping crud off your shoes, and some of the wind, but I didn't find them much warmer than going without.

If memory serves me, they were £6.99 for the set. I have found the cap very good in the sub-zero temperatures, but a bit too sweaty in anything above.

The overshoes have been great, kept my feet warm right through the cold snap. They offer some resistance to water, but it will eventually get through. Still good value, though.

I used my Aldi overshoes on Tuesday for the first time. My wife had moved my neoprene ones so these were the alternative. The temperature on my ride in was -5 and my feet were warm enough. The one criticism I have is the cleat holes were not the right position for road cleats and I got a bit paranoid that they were going to trap my feet and jam the release of the cleat. They didnt but I am sure the area in contact with the cleat will wear fairly quickly. Haven't used the hat so will reserve jugdement on that.

Hi, Cheers for all the replies. They had 2 sizes left, but only with size 4-5 overshoes and Im a size 10.
I decided not to buy as they would be a waste, but on second thoughts the cap would have been worth that on its own.

If they staill have some tomorrow I will probably get it.

The overshoes were cr*p , every time you had to put your foot down i found they would rip slightly on the under toe bit and the zips were always breaking.
Better than nothing but i binned them in the end.

Skull caps are ok but i always find them too hot unless its really really cold .

The scull cap is absolutely fine - been using this in -10 the last couple of weeks. The overshoes are OK for cold days. Any water then get out the expensive ones, but you can wear the cheap Aldi overshoes out over winter on cold days, without damage to the expensive ones - that's what I do - Aldi on cold dry days, expensive ones on mega cols or wet days....

TBH well impressed with them............

I thought the skull caps would be ok and for the price bought one, now after wearing it for a few times, I have my doubts, wore it twice last weekend in freezing conditions on a very demanding rides x country through the snow and ice, with lots of carrying the bike, and after the ride when we stopped for a post ride drink and removed my helmet, I found the skull cap dripping in sweat and steaming like a soggy dishcloth. Wicking capabilities are non existent. When I put it back on after it had eventually stopped steaming to ride home, it was now like a freezing cold soggy dishcloth and very uncomfortable and clammy. But perhaps it was the conditions that caused the problems, maybe if the air temp was warmer, then it may have dried out as I rode and not get so sweat laden. Maybe I might find it better Spring and late autumm than the depths of winter

Certainly not in the same league to my Gore skullcap

Skullcap is great. I do overheat so this is the first time I have used one and in today's thaw I am thinking of doing without.

As such, I wouldn't pay loads for one especially as I have 2 C+ buffs that can be easily used as a cap

For a cheap commuting bit of kit it's fine

I wasn't in time to get one of the sets with overshoes
