Thinking of trying a pair just to get an idea of how they feel (if i can find a nice fit) for my road bike.
The add says "Sole compatible with system from Shimano"?
I wonder if anyone can enlighten me as to what cleats and pedals will i need please as i don't really have much of a clue.
I'm only thinking buy cheap here as i just want to try in case i don't like them, therefore i won't waste too much money and can always upgrade if i like them.
TIA

Edit.
Does help if i add the link

Depends if there are two (SPD) or three holes (SPD-SL) in the sole...

Yep indeed, take a pic of the sole and someone will advise depending on your budget. Note with SPD-SL it is much harder to walk than an SPD shoe with a recessed cleat

Looking at the photos, they look more like a chunky SPD shoe than an SPD-SL disco slipper

They are SPD's if they are like the ones that normally crop up twice a year. I have had a pair for 3 years now that I use on the turbo, perfectly serviceable and compatible with SPD cleat/ pedal systems. comfy enough to walk in and relatively stiff soled swmbo has a pair for cycling using flat pedals.

I have a pair of Aldi shoes from 2 years back , I got them for a tenner in the sale, they are SPD with a recessed cleat, they fit well are stiff and I pedal in them just the same as my more expensive Shimano shoes.

Okay Thanks all, much appreciated. So it's the SPD pedals and cleats then....Just been looking at the choice available, what are easy to get out of quick to get out of , I'm also mid sixties, should i be thinking along these lines, i mean do you think it could be a bit dangerous for someone my age to use this system?
Sorry about these daft questions btw

Cheers all.

I do have a Turbo trainer to practise this, and looking at my own question again i suppose it all depends on the person..ie, health etc.

They are usually the 2 hole SPD fitting the cleat is set into the sole so they are easier to walk in than SPD SL. Most SPD Pedals are sold including the cleats. You can get double sided pedals or one side with SPD the other flat.

I'm 62 and can't ride without cleats , I thought I would give flats a go on the MTB but my foot was consistanly slipping of the pedal so went back to cleats, my preference are double sided SPD so east to get in & out of and the shoes are good for walking, I would never go back to single sided and road shoes that are awkward to walk in, you can get single sided SPD but I don't see the point.

That's a pair of Aldi shoes from a couple of years ago. The metal cleat is recessed. You will have to remove the two bolts and the rubber panel on the shoe and insert the cleats in the space. You can walk quite comfortably in these shoes more than a stiffer road style shoe. The cleats will come with the pedal not the shoe! I have spares if you need any should you get pedals without on ebay for example. Good luck you won't regret the change. Gez

No problem, as far as I can tell there are two types of shoe one with velcro and one with laces and a velcro strap. I find the laced ones more useful. Do try them on as they can be on the large size and the smallest available according to their website is a UK 8. Do let us know how you get on. Gez

I have used M520 pedals for years over thousands of miles without a problem.
They are available here for £18.95 including cleats. These are double sided SPD's, however they appear to include a plastic platform (removable) to give the option of riding clipped in or not. The release tension is adjustable. Suitable for MTB or road bikes. Don't forget the left handed thread on the left pedal.
