this might sound stupid and nooby but -->> had a problem today, on the way home from work my tyre and innertube burst. got the bike home and went shopping for replacement tyre and tube.

problem ive got is that the tyre doesnt seem to fit, its a 700c tyre but doesnt sit properly in the wheel, it looks too big. i thought maybe if i pump the tube up a bit more it may fit around it better but it doesn't, so im now off the road, ill nip down the local bike shop when i can and get him to fit me a new one.

Not all 700c tyres will fit on all 700c wheels. You need to get the right width of tyre as well as the right diameter. So if your old tyre was 700x23 then you need either the same, or you may get away with 700x25 or even 700x28 perhaps, but it depends on frame clearances and also things like mudguard requirements. For example, I could fit 700x28 tyres on my commuter if I wanted, but I couldn't then fit my mudguards as there would be no clearance. Equally, I could go upto 700x25 on my best bike, but anything larger would rub on the frame.

Unless you are experiencing comfort issues, you want to fit guards or some other reason, then the simplest way is check the exact size of the old one, and buy exactly the same size.

I hope that makes some sense

my fault for not checking, ive now got a 700c 23 and it fits perfectly and bike is up and running again. i thought any 700c tyre had fit, went back and took the tyre in and the sales assistant found me a couple of choices that would fit
