I apologise if this has been done before but I am new to this forum
I am just curious to know if there are many members over the age of 50, or am I the oldest at 60, although I don't feel anywhere near that.

Try hanging around the CTC to make yourself feel really young :-)

My dad's an occasional visitor to these boards (he goes by the name of Rewind). He's 64 and still cycling 100+ miles in five or six hours in the Bahrain heat on a regular basis. He's certainly fitter and faster than me, and I'm not 40 yet.
Welcome to CC, by the way!

60? You are only a youngster!

I'm 64 in a couple of months and I know there are people older than me on here.

55 here and intend to race again next year after a 10 year layoff from it. Plenty of mates in their seventies and even above still racing so I should with luck have plenty of years left.

I joined these forums yesterday also. I only took up cycling when I retired. I am 62.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
The clue is in my username. "It is not how old you are, but how you are old." (Jules Renard)

A friend of my pals father is in his seventies and recently had to get a pace maker fitted. His heart was beating too slowly. The doctors said his heart was in brilliant condition, no fat on it. He even got the junior doctors to have a look at it as he said they would probably never see a heart like his. He has been cycling all his life and is back out on his bike. Hope i am in as good condition as he when i reach his age.............

I suspect any skewing towards younger folk on this forum (if there is one) is more down to the internet medium, than the age profile of cyclists....

IE, there are plenty of older cyclists, but not all of them have discovered (or are interested in) forums.

I'm a mere 41, although I'm capable of feeling about 90 on an off-day, does that count? ;)

In the Dunfermline Cycling Club, one of the fittest recreational riders is 58 or something, he was doing 10 centuries in a row but I think they called it off after only (only  ) 6, I spoke to somebody else doing it and they were only (only  ) averaging 20.5mph. In my last club I knew of other riders that were in that bracket too and I'm maybe faster than them uphill but over the course they are faster than me. Another time a cyclist was scooped up by our peleton (and we were still going a good pace) and I got talking to some bloke, the conversation started 'I use to race 50 years ago' after he went on a bit I realised he must be in his seventies. A couple of years ago I went on a cycling holiday to Spain (& the Vuelta) another member of the group was 67, ok he wasn't the fastest uphills mountains but he got up them :bravo:

I hope I'm half as fit as some of those blokes in my later life.
