Occasionally when I am out in cold weather and more so when exercising (cycling) my vision distorts a bit and I feel slightly dizzy. The distortion is like the blind spot that we all have at the centre of our vision but bigger, no lights, flashes or funny colours just no THINGS. If I ease off it passes fairly soon but I wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar or had any idea what it might be?

I sometimes think that my vision is affected by the cold, and so I tend to wear my glasses when riding if it is very cold. However I don't feel dizzy at the same time. It is probably worth mentioning to your optician or doctor.

worth keeping an eye on hydration. It is amazingly easy to get dehydrated in cold weather when you are less inclined to drink and dizziness and loss of vision are both signs of dehydration (as is nausea).

The only other thing that immediately sprang to mind was low blood pressure (which would only be a case if you have a known BP issuse and take something for it, but this would reoccur during the same day each time you re-exert yourself - or at least did with me with too much meds for high BP going back to harder exercise this time last year).

If it re-occurs, speak with your GP. Once off, I would let it pass personally, but that's me.

What blind spot?

I had to cut a ride short today, much to my dismay. It is about 1 degree here and I have a cold. The cold air seemed to be going straight to my head and giving my a headache, so rather than struggling on and not enjoying it, I decide for a metaphorical early bath.

Finger crossed my cold will pass and the cold weather will ease up a little. I had such a good start to the Strava base mile challenge (well for me anyway) and it has somewhat tailed off...
