I am looking to buy AEROSPOKE wheel for the front only.

The reason for this is:
That they look cool.
Are very stiff and strong.
From the promotional blurb, supposed to assist acceleration due to stiffness.
More durable

However, they are:
Expensive (c.£250).
A bit on the heavy side [i understand c.1200g for the front]

does any one have any thoughts????

Thanks

Hi V

Intended for a MONTAGUE PARATROOPER bike.

The rear wheel will be a relatively cheap standard spoke wheel.

These wheels are most certainly not lightweight and you really notice it when accelerating and climbing hills. Once moving though they feel pretty quick. Although I agree they look really cool I do not believe that they are substantially stronger than any other wheel. This is not to say I consider them weak, I just do not believe they are stronger than any other quality wheel.
When I tried my friends set, I felt they were cool looking wheels which were ok in some areas and compromised in others, considering the price i wanted something which was easier to live with, as an added note my friend who was running a set does so no longer.

I can certainly tell you that a front wheel as heavy as 1200g* is definitely not going to assist acceleration, especially on a Montagu Paratrooper, which while a robust bike is a rather heavy, full sized folder which is unlikely to be quick enough to capitalise on any aerodynamic advantage any aero wheel may offer. On top of that the current Paratroopers need disc brake compatible wheels.

Also an aero wheel up front and a standard spoked wheel at the back will look ehhh not nice as well as wrong - people generally put a higher profile, more aero wheel at the back to minimise wind impact on steering.

Don't do it.

* front wheels built for speed and acceleration usually weigh around half that

1200g is about twice the weight of a decent front wheel that you could buy for ~£100.

Heavy wheels = crap acceleration. A regular wheel will be plenty stiff enough and will accelerate better.

Are you a fakenger?

Style over substance, which is not always a bad thing...

...it is in this case though.
