Advice regarding mud and Lycra.....

Went out riding today and some of the roads were wet and muddy so ended up coming home and of course the back of my top is white but now had water marks / mud marks splattered up the back, threw it all in the wash and none of it has come out, caked it in "vanish" and washed it again and still nothing!!!

Is there anything that can get it out? got it soaking at the min in washing liquid and warm water...

At first thought it might of been the lycra but its the same with my cycling socks although some has come out but its still there and noticeable.

Any advice???

Cheers

Do you use a non-biological washing powder/liquid? It could be worth trying a biological one just for getting it out, then rewashing it in non-bio after if you have senstive skin, but (sorry to say it) the vanish stuff is usually pretty good, so if that doesn't budge it then it might be difficult to shift.

Have you tried (gently) scrubbing it with a nail brush?

I find that diluted washing up liquid can be good for stains too. Letting it soak for a while then giving it a gentle scrub, but I've never tried it with Lycra.

I use Napisan to remove stubborn stains - designed for babies terry nappies, not met a stain it couldn't tackle yet!

Well after a long hard ride today and I'm suffering a bit now, that's about the funniest thing I have seen all day and cheered me up. Cannot fathom out though how you got the blue stripe, run over a bottle of ink?

If it does'nt come out, then dye the shirt with some cheap dye, then go out for a ride in the rain and post a picture of yourself, I promise I wont laugh

Mudguards? ;)

When I watched the Tour of Britain last September it rained on almost every day. I couldn't help thinking that the race organisers should insist on mudguards rather than have the riders spray each other for 5 hours. This is Britain after all.

I had a white top like the OP's. I think the spots came out after about a year of washing and sun bleaching on the washing line. I have not worn white off-road ever since.
