Totally agree about FB though; seems to dredge up the dregs of potential buyers... although I think to an extent it depends on what you're sellng. While probably in the minority I've dealt with some sound people on there too and all things considered prefer it to giving ebay my money.

I agree, about 1 in 10 on FB are genuine, the endless messages “is this still available” drive me absolute insane, but in the end a normal person ends up buying your item.

I‘ve used eBay for years and it is reliable, however the fees have become crippling, they’re far too high, it’s a real shame Gumtree has fallen away, I really used to like it.

Thank you for your post. I have heard quite a bit about time wasters on Facebook via a mate that uses it. Personally I don't use it.

Scammers, not just time wasters. Whatever platform you use, restrict the ways in which buyers can contact you ( aka, harass and try to scam). Gumtree or eBay my preference as only their messaging platform can be used. No phonecalls, texts, emails

Indeed.. FB certainly requires a reasonable tolerance to idiots.. although I think to an extent how much people mess you about depends on what you're selling, while over time you tend to become more savvy to the muppets and treat them accordingly.

On a positive note I flogged my Boardman on FB and was lucky to get one sound guy who was a pleasure to deal with..

I still begrudgingly buy off ebay but hear ebay's gone a bit silly with the fees; tbh what really put me off was how restrictive, counter-intuitive and hostile the selling process had become.

I've had some success on Gumtree and as a platform prefer it to marketplace; although granted stuff doesn't seem to get as much exposure on there are FB. I think again it depends to an extent on what you're selling..

A pain but after a while they become very obvious and are easily avoided.. and can sometimes be fun depending on how petty and vindictive you're feeling.
