My dad took his new giant anthem x to france last week for a jolly in the Pyrenees, only the second time hes ridden it and he loves it. However, whilst in the van transporting the bikes it was scrathed by the monkey packing the van. Its a very deep scuff/scratch on the top of the top tube, right down to the aluminium, he's assured its not structural. i will post pictures tomorrow but does anyone have any advice other than spray paint and masking?

Any advice much appreciated

Provided it's not too large an area try and find a colour match from a tin of Humbrol model paint, it is tough stuff and ideal for hiding chips on bike frames. It is difficult to get an invisible finish unless you have a fair bit of skill, but you can find an appropriate transfer to cover the repair and add a bit of bling to the frame.

Aldi were doing a scratch repair kit last week for a couple of quid or so. My daughter's car had been keyed almost down to the metal and she tried the kit. It worked a treat. Though not totally invisible, you wouldn't notice the repair if you didn't know it had been done and so were looking for it. You have to look hard to see it. I think the stuff you fill the scratch with must lift colour off the surrounding area to achieve a perfect colour match to the repair.

Halfords and other car repair shops sell similar kits but I haven't seen them used so cannot comment on how good they are.
