Hello I've upgraded my wheels to cosmic carbone. I've just had a new cassette fitted. I've got the lock nut given to me. What is the lock nut and doesn't it need to e fitted? Also should I oil my new cassette before my 1st ride on the wheels?

Someone has fitted the cassette without the lock nut? That's a bit odd.
The lock nut holds the cassette in place.
Don't oil the cassette but oil the chain from time to time.

Just reliased he has fitter the new cassttte lock ring and the lock ring I've got spare is the mavic 1 that was supplied with the wheels

Because there is no need.
You oil the chain.

I lubed my cassette once. I've never seen it attract muck as quickly in my life! Now I just oil the chain, and even then only the rollers and sparingly.

If you oil the cassette it will a) potentially spray everywhere when spun and b) attract muck which you will have to clean off. Just lightly oil your chain.
