I'm after advice again.
I've posted a couple of times on here regarding an annoying creak in my new specialised tricross, and have had some great advice.
To cut a long, boring story short I have takes it back three times. First time they tightened everything up, second time they replaced the crank and finally they replaced the whole bb. Each time the problem has seemed resolved until about ten miles later when the creak returns.

My question is what is reasonable to expect the shop to do? As there is clearly a problem. They a have been good so far but I sense their patience is wearing thin.

Thanks in advance and sorry for being a bore

Do you think they should expect you to ride a creaky bike? Let them fix it or give you a new bike.

Are you sure they replaced the crank as you would usually change the BB first to rule that out first?

I don't know the BB in the tricross but if it is similiar to bb30 with the bearings pressed directly into the frame without nylon cups then it will keep creaking as its the frame that's causing it to creak, a lot of boardmans and cannondales were like this.

I had a creak a few weeks ago I basically completely stripped and rebuilt the bike including the bb and folks and to no avail, Turned out to be the seat post,I removed it cleaned it and refitted it hey presto the creak was gone. I must admit I felt a little foolish having spent several hours when the actual fault was a 2 minute job:blush: I perhaps should have noticed that the creak didn't happen when I was stood on the pedals. In answer to your question I would consider it reasonable for the shop to sort the problem. You pay a premium when you buy from a LBS for amongst other things after sales service.

Mine disappeared when I stood too, thats how come I ended up with a new seat post (though needed one as I found out the original was a little on the short side), still mine turned out to be the cleat.
@mynydd lets put it this way if you bought a new car and the big ends were knocking (not very likely mind) I think I would be asking for a new car if it was a persistent problem that kept coming back.
The only noise you should hear on a bike is the sound of the tyres and the freewheel/hub, and the rider going up hill maybe.

Thanks for confirming what I though, am going to ask for a replacement or for them to send it back to specialized to be sorted out. the annoying thing is I specificaly wanted that bike and it was the last one inthe shop.

Thanks also for the advice re pedals, seatpost etc. had checked these aswell as taking out virtualy every nut and bolt, regreasing and tightening to the correct nm torque, all to no avail

Hi mynydd, just been reading your post regarding the creak, As mentioned in a previous post I have the same model 2011 Tricross I picked it up last Sat at Edinburgh cycles in Manchester. For the first few rides every thing has been sweet, But this morning I have had a creak / clicking noise fro the left pedal crank !.
I haven't yet had chance to check it out ie to rule out anything obvious, but reading your posts it does sound very similar. I'll keep you updated should I find anything.
