Due to my car going off the road for a couple of weeks, i decided to get my old bike out to get me to + from work. Best thing i've done in ages

Anyway, it's not a great bike, Townsend Endurance 18 speed in fact. But i'm only using it for going to work and running about the town. Nothing serious (YET!)

My question - i was wondering how much it would cost roughly to convert to a singlespeed gear system because (A) my gears are pretty well buggered already, ( i only use the same gear all the time + (C) i prefer not to have any gear changing to do!!

Hope you can help,

thanks:thumbsup:

very cheap I would guess...depends on whether you need to get the chain line sorted or not....which would mean respacing the axel so that the chain at the back is in a perfect line with the chainring at the front.... This will require removing some of the sprockets I guess...which needs a specialist tool. (beg borrow steal a chain whip).

The you just remove the rear and front deraillur and voila.

(if you do not have sprockets...but have a cassette then you may need to buy a sprocket. This is pretty cheap)

So potentially free.....

I guess.

Why not just leave it in the gear you like and not touch the gear shifters

See if the limit screws will keep it in the gear you want, and if so, junk the cable and shifters.

I would but i'd rather just get rid of the whole lot to be honest.

Heading down to my local bike shop later to see what they say.
