Clearing out my garage at the weekend and I want to hang my bike on the wall, out of the way.

I'm looking for a bit of advice on decent (but inexpensive) wall brackets. They don't need to fold out of the way.

Also, stupid question, but where's the best place on the bike to hang it from, only reason for asking is that whilst the obvious place is the top tube, what about the gear cables that run along the underside of the tube?

Is it best to hang it from the underside of the stem and under the seat instead?

Instead of hanging one of mine I screwed a pair of 350mm shelf brackets to the wall, across these is fixed a length of 2x2 upon which is screwed some 40mm plastic waste pipe cut in half along its length, like a piece of gutter. The wheels sit in the pipe and the bike leans against the wall. I have a piece of wood that swivels down and catches the saddle so that it can't fall over.
Perhaps I'll try to get a picture.

I used these Halfords brackets to set up my bikes like so

Brackets are £10.99 each and work well with all tyres. 18 months on, no problems. As I didn't have a lot of space they are spaced at about 35 cms apart with the heights varied. The kids can get their bikes down but not up, so a wider spacing would have been better if I'd had the space.

Thanks for the help so far.

I need to hang it up above my bench, so horizontally.

Has anyone got any tips for decent brackets for this?
