Advice needed

Hi everyone I'm looking for a bike and need some advice. I'm planning to use it to cycle to work which is about 10 miles away so it would mainly be for the roads and or cycle routes & maybe the occasional off road stuff!
My budget is up to £600 but haven't got a clue what's good or bad
I think I would need a 20.5 inch frame as I'm 6ft 2 & my girlfriend says I look too big for a smaller frame.
Can anybody help?

Cheers,

p.s. to elaborate: Others with far better knowledge will be along shortly to share their views, no doubt. I would think a hybrid might be the way to go if you're mainly road riding but do want to be ale to use it on tracks etc. The one I linked looks pretty brisk to me. Good for the road but would be able to handle tracks just fine. Go for a decent make like Specialized, Giant or Trek. Check out your local bike shop (LBS) to see what they have in and try some bikes for size. You will probably know which one feels right! Good luck with it and welcome to CC

For a 20 mile round trip each day you should consider a bike with mudguards and a rack (or one that these can be fitted to) at the back for panniers (you may want to carry waterproofs, emergency toolkit, locks, lights). Will you be changing clothes at work - if so will you carry these extra clothes in as well?

Remember to budget for suitable cycle wear for travelling

Avoid anything with rear suspension (you are just carrying lots of extra weight for no purpose) You'll need to decide if your off-road trips will be 'rough' enough for front suspension to be helpful.
