Hi all

Looking for a new waterproof jacket and would like to hear what you have and comments.

I've been looking at Endura and Altura online. Need something I can wear all year round as I live in Scotland and it tends to rain 95% of the year lol. This will mostly be used on my mountain bike and maybe the road bike sometimes.

Whats the opinion of the Endura Flyte??

Cheers

I prefer a snug fit and nothing that makes me look like the norm (i.e yellow jacket) so I went for the atura transparent race cape 2012 ergo nice and light totaly waterproof and keeps you warm but not practical if you like a loose fitting garment.

Sorry no experience with the Endura jacket but my preference is for Shower Pass Elite 2.0 which is made of eVent material. I would suggest that eVent is right up there in terms of waterproof materials.

I lost my first Showers Pass Elite 2.0 on tour in July 2011 and just received my replacement in time for our winter. Looked at options such as the latest Gore-Tex materials but went back to the eVent jacket.

If you want a tighter fit/smaller package Showers Pass have other options as well. Very good product in my view.

Unfortunately Showers Pass gear is not available in the UK, and ordering from the US can involve costs close to $1 = £1 once all the import taxes etc are paid.

I really like my Paramo jacket, but it is expensive and is not really cycling specific. I would imagine it could get too warm, although the British weather hasn't given me the chance to test this theory in the last year or so...

I've been using my Endura Gridlock for the past few years. It's an absolutely brilliant jacket IME. It's comfy, breathable, waterproof, and hard wearing

For the price you'd be hard pressed to beat it IMO

When I do eventually need to replace it at some distant point in the future I'll simply replace it with another one, unbeatable value.

I have the Endura Gridlock and I too find it very good. It is quite bulky though compared to other jackets, great for winter though. After wasting my time on a couple of cheap crap shower-proof jackets that let rain in like a tea bag I got a Tenn Vapor jacket. It packs down pretty well and is waterproof so far and appears to be fairly breathable. It seems to be cheaper on Amazon than their own website for some reason. The only fault I can find with it considering how cheap it is, is that the arms are a little baggy. Does not bother me, as I like a bargain.

Just checked it's £69.99 on their website and only £29.99 on amazon. I got mine from a well known auction site that Tenn list things on, again it was much cheaperthan their website.

Their stuff is decent - but the Small is 38"-40".

What about someone like me, who's now 36" ?

Endura Gridlock for me, and I agree with the earlier comments. It will probably be a bit heavy duty in the heat of summer but I doubt that that is going to be a problem this year!
On the basis of the jacket I've since bought quite a few bits of Endura kit and I'm happy with all of them. Good quality, reasonable value.

If anyone from Endura is reading this please send my commission to ..........

I guess you would just have to try it mate and see. There sizing to me appears to be like regular UK sizing for normal clothes. I take a large and it fits me perfect on the body and the length of the arms, it's just that the width of the arms is a little baggy. Whereas other cycling brands I have tried, Gore comes to mind I would have to go up to an XL as the large is too small. if you take a small in normal clothing it is probably worth trying to be honest, you could always return it. I never bothered looking at the chest sizes just went with my normal size.

Crikey, you pay import duties on something of this value? Anything we bring in under AU$1000 AU/£622 is duty free as the cost of administrating/collecting the duty far out weighs the duty collected.

Also if one buys from say http://bicyclinghub.com the price and postage is more competitive. My last Showers Pass Elite 2.0 jacket was $AU226/$US224 delivered to my door which is approximately £141.00. From my reading of the HRM Revenue and Customs website this falls within your duty free threshold.

Anyway that may still be too expensive I guess.

I live the Endura stuff. I have the Endura Stealth Jacket an it's superb. Comes in at £169 but worth every penny. You get what you pay for and all that.

I'd like to find a truly waterproof cycling jacket with a hood, because I don't wear a helmet and I like to keep my head dry and stop the rain running down my neck (and I don't mind looking like a dweeb).
My Paramo jacket has a hood. I also have a removable one for my Altura Nightvision although I've not used it much (at all?). My Altura is no longer waterproof either, I'll give it one more chance with the Nikwax just in case, but I think its time is up.
