Advice needed. Gadgets for counting things.

I'm going to have to gather a bit of data for my MA thesis and I reckon what I need is one of those gadgets that you sometimes see train guards using to count the number of passengers: a simple mechanical device where you just click a button every time you want to record a new passenger.

Does anybody know what their proper name is and where I can get one? I'd rather have a tough metal one than some flimsy plastic thing which is likely to break.

I know them as clickers we use them so we know how much money a table has taken.

We got my son and his cousin one each as stocking fillers at christmas, it comes from the lynx advert for counting the looks they get of girls, they loved them, great fun.
