While browsing Wiggles site I came across the Team GB cycling kit now available for all to buy.
I was disappointed when I saw the prices.
mitts £36
arm warmers £36
cotton cap £18
s/s top £62
l/s top £90
bib shorts £90

I know prices for goods today are more about marketing than true value but It would have been nice if British Cycling had a say in keeping the prices reasonable .
They will say its technically similar to the real thing and kit has come along way since wool shorts etc but I have been given some of the real kit and its nothing special. They will say its a business and the market price but with the Olympics coming wouldn't it be great to see lots of kit out on the roads?
Personally I tend to only wear team kit if I am entitled to wear it, but if others want to that's fine & maybe it would give cycling a bigger profile to the general public?
I do have an issue with prices of goods these days, its my age, and I am probably being unrealistic but I haven't seen many Sky team kits out on the road in my area since that was available and this could be the same, Shame.

It's not just branded cycle kit that is expensive. Football kit is just as, if not more expensive so is Formula 1 branded product, England Cricket tops etc. It's all to extract as much as possible out of the fans and supporters as possible.

In London I have seen a fair few Sky kits on display.

While football teams and the like are money making enterprises, where does the money go for the cycling kit? Does the team depend on the money raised by selling the kit, or is it all going to the retailer and manufacturer who just paid a licensing fee to make copies?

I would like to think BC are cute enoughto have made some money out of this but while a current England shirt can be got for about £35, how can they justify £36 for armwarmers or mitts?

I think there is a rather small discount to BC members albeit only making a tiny difference to the original markup price.

Well, cyclists are gullible (take a look at the price of "prestigious" brands) and this is simply a reflection of that. It's sad because a little strategic thinking (and pricing) could put a lot this kit out there to be noticed - instead of kit advertising Spanish 'phone companies or whatever - but there you go. I bought 2 team GB jersey in 1990 (red, white and blue with a pleasing variation on the Union Jack) and they are still going strong. Certainly if there is any consistency (yes, I think they were expensive at the time) then this gear will be of good quality.

Just wait for the Olympics....

Olympic = financial ripoff

Just wait until the new poers are in place, it is actually going to be an offence to wear non sponsor clothing in the vicinity of the Olympic events. The POlice are being given powers to enforce the restriction as well!

There are also bans on non sponsor advertising on bill boards, vehicles, posters etc within the vicinity includingtha airspace!

Welcome to 2012

I was going to get a Short Sleeve top to wear during Paris-Brest-Paris to identify me as an AUK

£62 is a bit steep however

So is £54.56 which is the current wiggle pseudo discounted price
