I'm thinking of upgrading my seven-speed for a ten or 11 casette on my road bike, but pricing up there might be a few extra things that need doing. So I'll need a new chain and cable for sure, but what about deraillers and shifters will they need to be new? If so I might not bother as it will send the price up a fair bit.

Cheers, r80

Could be costly. New chain, rear mech, shifters. 11 speed you'll need Campagnolo which probably won't be what you're currently running, or 2013 shimano 11sp which will require a new beck wheel because the cassette is wider and won't fit onto the hub. shimano Tiagra 10sp is about £300 for the groupset, Shimano Sora about £250. Add to that whatever the LBS charge for the work.

Personally I'd stick with 7 speed and get a cassette that matches how you ride, you might have less of a range but more options that you reasonably use like a 12-13-14-16-18-20-23 or something.

That would probably be a bad investment, as the bike cost me £300 (previous years stock). It currently runs an r80 groupset, which is reliable, but its small and big gears are just never where I want them to be. I have the sizes written down in the shed so I'll check them tommorow.
