Adding cross top levers?

Is this as simple as just cutting the outer cable, adding some ferrules, and fitting the levers? Any pitfalls?

Bike is a planet X London road with Avid BB7 disc brakes.

Pretty much. Did it on my Thorn some years back. You obviously do have to re-tape the handlebars which in my case never looks as neat at the shop job. Cutting is a bit fraught as it's easy to end up with the outers a bit tight.

just make sure to order correct size for handlebars width and have new inner cables and some outer cable easy job, as long as your bike does not have hydraulic disc brakes if so forget about it.

You'd have to be some sort of hapless idiot not to check before buying (don't ask me how I know this )
